This finely decorated gilt bronze Buddha, 41 cm high, is a good example of why high-quality Buddhist sculpture continues to hold a firm position in the international art market.

Barend Jordens belongs to that fascinating generation of Dutch artists whose work stood at the intersection of sculpture, architecture and the applied arts. Born in Amsterdam in 1888, he trained at the Teekenschool voor Kunstambachten and subsequently at the Rijkschool voor Kunstnijverheid, studying under Willem Retera and August Falise. In 1923–24 he further developed his knowledge of ceramics under the influential ceramicist Bert Nienhuis. 

This delicate 18th-century botanical gouache by Dorothea Kreps was recently sold from The Weyde Collection to a private collector in Leiden.

Among the quieter discoveries in the Dutch art trade are works that reconnect us not only with an artist, but with an entire artistic circle. This refined drawing by Hendrik Weymans, dated 1793, is one such example.
